Temporary changes at the Plaza Hotel-Casino

Another local hotel is taking a hit from the bad economy.

The Plaza Hotel-Casino in downtown Las Vegas is being forced to make some temporary changes to keep afloat. The hotel reportedly shut down one of its towers as well as part of its casino and some restaurants, including the Omelet House.

In addition, some employees have been laid off or their hours have been cut. Most of these changes started in November. One place still open is the Firefly restaurant, which opened at the hotel last year. It continues to report steady business.

Hit the floor at the Plaza Hotel and Casino! Enjoy the hottest gaming action that Las Vegas has to offer, from innovative slot machines to the classic poker room and from high energy craps and roulette to baccarat and bingo. Skip the Strip and discover why the real players play in vintage Downtown Las Vegas! From low minimum bets to high roller action, the Plaza is the place for the way you like to play with some of the best odds Las Vegas has to offer. Dine in the glass-domed Center Stage restaurant for a taste of classic Las Vegas decadence overlooking the renowned Fremont Street Experience. Every Sunday bump elbows with celebrities at the Celebrity Brunch, hosted by Magnum PI's Larry Manetti. Three miles from the Vegas Strip, Lady Luck Casino Hotel stands across from the Fremont Street Experience (free state-of-the-art light and sound shows; retail promenade). Onsite, the hotel houses a 40,000 square foot casino with 28 table games and 800 slot and video poker machines. Dining options include a buffet venue, 24-hour grill, and fine dining restaurant.
