Vegas World (1979-1994) April 30, 1996 - The $550 million Stratosphere is one of Las Vegas' most Popular attractions. Soaring to 1,149 feet, Stratosphere Tower is America's tallest free-standing observation tower and the tallest building west of the Mississippi. (Sears Tower is 1,450 feet). The 12-story pod atop the tower features meeting rooms, a revolving restaurant and lounge, indoor and outdoor observations decks, and two of the most exciting thrill rides in the world - the Big Shot and the High Roller roller coaster. Stratosphere Hotel and Casino offers 1,500 tastefully furnished guest rooms and suites, a 100,000 sq-ft World's Fair-themed casino-featuring Over 100% Payback Video Poker, International retail shopping mall called The Tower Shops at Stratosphere, and seven themed restaurants. The Stratosphere is owned by Stratosphere Corp., cost $550 million to build and stands at 135 stories ( 1149 feet ) high with 1500 rooms available. Though the casino opened under its new name in 1994, the actual tower did not open until 1996. Several different meeting and private dining rooms are available atop of the tower offering a splendid view of the city. Dining includes restaurants ranging from the complete elegance of the Top of the World to the casual dining of McDonald's. The Stratosphere boasts an 80,000 square-foot casino featuring 44 table games and 1,551 slot and video poker machines
