Once Upon A Time

by Teri Sharp

There once was a queen who traveled far and wide, Fearless, and brave, from nothing she would hide. The peasants loved her, they thought she had it all; She ruled with love, and many admirers came to call, Unimportant things came easily - all she had to do was ask; Her peers thought they knew her, but never saw beneath the mask. Underneath all the laughter and the easygoing smile, She knew something was missing, and had been for a while. She yearned for a knight whose love was true and deep, The sight of whom would make her heart leap. Someone to talk with, to make love with, at night; A man she could walk forward with, into the light. So she went forth, and searched the countryside, Never knowing her true love was locked up inside. In the dungeon of the castle was an imprisoned knight; He wiled away the hours, alone, and out of sight. Like her, he had also left his mark across the land, In search of someone who would truly understand. He had never seen her, although their souls had met, Deep in the night, as tears made their faces wet. He'd never heard her voice, yet it spoke to his heart; They'd never been together, yet couldn't bear to be apart. He longed to feel the warmth of her, encircled by his arms; To stand together, side by side, safe from life's harms. So they took the chance, and set each other free - Was there a "Happily ever after?" - That's up to you and me!
