Pioneer Club:
Located in downtown Las
Vegas at 25 East Fremont Street, the Pioneer Club opened in April of
1942. The Pioneer Club bought Club Bingo which was located on the west
side and demolished it in 1983 to enlarge it's casino area. The Pioneer
Club has had many owners over the years and was called the "New Pioneer
Club" from 1956 to 1967. "Vegas Vic" the friendly-looking "Howdy
Partner" cowboy was added to the front of the Pioneer Club by the
Chamber of Commerce in 1952.
Pioneer
Club Hotel:
The Elwell Hotel was located at 200 South First Street at
Carson directly behind the Pioneer Club. In 1965 the Pioneer Club
purchased the Elwell Hotel and renamed it the Pioneer Club Hotel. It
didn't work out and the hotel was sold and became the Golden Hotel in
1969. The Golden Nugget bought the Golden Hotel in 1984 and built a
parking garage on the site.
Elwell
Hotel:
Located at 200 South First Street at Carson in downtown Las
Vegas, the Elwell Hotel was open from 1946 to 1965. In 1965 it was
purchased by the Pioneer Club and became the Pioneer Hotel, and then the
Golden Hotel from 1969 to 1984. All three hotels had small licensed
casinos. Now the Golden Nugget parking garage.
