City mulls downtown land sale at cut rate Las Vegas officials want to sell downtown property to the new owners of the Lady Luck for tens of millions of dollars less than what the city’s appraisers say the land is worth. City redevelopment staff say the land must be discounted by more than half to get the California-based company to begin renovations of the shuttered hotel and casino.

Lady Luck Remains Shuttered
Honest John's Casino: Located at 304
Ogden at the corner of third Street in downtown Las Vegas. Open between
1961 and 1967 as a newsstand, Honest John's only had slot machines.
Andrew Tompkins purchased the casino in 1964 and changed the name to
Lady Luck in 1968. Until he could get new $1.00 slot tokens made,
Tompkins used Honest John's tokens with a sticker on them that said Lady
Luck.
Lady Luck:
Honest John's Newsstand at 206 North Third Street, downtown Las Vegas
had 17 slot machines when it was purchased by Andrew Tompkins in 1964.
He opened it as Lady Luck Casino in 1968. A new hotel tower was added
in 1986, and another in 1989.
